I understand AlbertP's comment as a claim that post-2010 AMD cards should not use this ID. To sum up, AMD bought ATI in 2006 but kept branding its cards "ATI" until 2010. Otherwise, if as AlbertP claims this is only used for old cards, then "ATI (now AMD)" may be clearer.īut, I'm not sure this is really restricted to old cards. So the suggestion to use the formulation "ATI/AMD" may be less clear, but also less misleading. I believe the formula "AMD nee ATI" implies that AMD was known as ATI before, but that's wrong. In fact, "né" is a French word, and in French this wouldn't be an exact use. I now understand, but I'm not convinced it's accurate. I'm French, but I can't even remember seeing the word "nee". I was confused when I noticed my card now displays as an AMD nee ATI Madison.
